Michelle Obama is venturing back into the world of podcasts, this time with a fresh twist. Teaming up with her brother, Craig Robinson, the former First Lady is set to launch a video podcast titled IMO (In My Opinion). A live recording will take place at the South By Southwest festival this week.
Higher Ground, the media company founded by Michelle and Barack Obama, announced the new podcast, marking their first venture into video format. The show will be co-hosted by Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, a basketball executive. The inaugural episode features intimate reflections on their childhood in Chicago, as they reminisce about growing up in a modest home where they shared a bedroom. Craig Robinson talks candidly about lessons learned from his divorce, while Michelle Obama shares her initial hesitations about Barack Obama’s presidential ambitions. The episode also delves into cherished memories of their late parents, Frasier Robinson III and Marian Robinson.
Adding star power to the series, the second episode features actress, producer, and writer Issa Rae, discussing the nuances of maintaining adult friendships. Michelle Obama lightens the mood by revealing her recent return to driving after years under the care of the Secret Service. Future episodes will include appearances by celebrities like Seth Rogen, Keke Palmer, and Tyler Perry, resonating with fans of The Michelle Obama Podcast from 2020.
The series debuts two episodes to the public on Wednesday, March 12, with a live episode recording at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, on Thursday, March 13. Each episode runs for an hour and is produced in collaboration with Audible, an Amazon company. Sponsors such as Pine-Sol, Theraflu, and Rivian are backing the show.
